Description 

Eclipse Encounter draws on a childhood memory of the 1999 solar eclipse, a brief instant when daylight seemed to break apart, turning the familiar into something strange and unrecognisable. The piece translates that cosmic event into a dreamlike landscape, where human figures, plants, and enigmatic, otherworldly beings emerge from the shadows.

Black became the dominant ground of the work, echoing that sudden blotting-out of daylight. But the darkness is never total. Glinting strands of pink, red, green, blue, and other colours catch the light across the surface, letting a concealed glow show through. The work captures a moment of transformation, when the everyday dissolves into the magical, giving way to the magical, witnessing a rare and mysterious phenomenon. The darkness is never absolute; hidden light continues to shine through.
